Frequently Asked Questions

Reaping and Souls

  • Reaping well is a challenge for me. Maybe I need help with combat tactics. What do I do?
    • Speak to fellow templars; we have some excellent tacticians among us. Because unity and instruction is so emphasized, virtually all of them should be honored to assist you.
  • Do I have to reap every day?
    • No, but why would you wish to stop? Your reaping brings our day of reckoning ever closer, and if you are a demon, frequent reaping is required to bring you sustenance and strength.
  • Do I have to kill innocents? What if a fellow templar does in my presence and I’m offended?
    • You do not have to kill innocents. However, if you are offended by them being slain, this does not bode well for your future loyalty — and sanity — when we conquer the Overworld. You must be strong of spirit, for many “innocents” shall be slaughtered in my name.
  • Is it still considered reaping if I kill only small creatures?
    • Yes, though we prefer that our Reapers seek suitable challenges rather than rely only on slaying weak creatures. After all, the stronger the soul, the more power we gain. All creature souls go to the Underworld, be they inferior or superior in the Overworld.
  • My new plan is to camp at the Gatekeeper until I defeat him! What do you think?
    • It is quite likely a foolish plan and a waste of your time and energy. We support the shrewd use of tactics, not the “die, hit once, die, hit once” routine. If you have a reasonable chance of killing the Gatekeeper, by all means do it — his soul would be very welcome. But if you have died more than 10 times in attempting to reap him, it clearly is not a worthwhile attempt. Focus your energies elsewhere.
  • Do “undead” creatures have souls? Is it worth it to kill them?
    • In general, the undead are animated corpses with no souls. However, I do infuse the undead with souls at times, which can make them more intelligent than your average zombie, but still far less so than a demon. While slaying the undead does not always release a soul, it does assure you of more combat experience and knowledge, and thus I still encourage it.
  • Do I have to consume the bodies of things I do kill?
    • If you are a humanoid, no. If you are a demon, you will feel compelled to feast on a corpse when hungry.
  • What exactly happens to the soul of a creature once I kill it?
    • As you are a Templar of Death, the soul of the creature will travel directly to the Underworld, where Catseyes often will treat it as an offering. The reapings of non-templars come to me as well, but may take a more indirect route. Once in a while, non-templars will kill a creature and its soul will not automatically come to me. Should this occur, I will sense the disturbance and regain control of the roaming spirit/soul/wraith. In the end, the occasional roaming soul can be to our advantage, as it allows us a constant presence in the Overworld. If you are a demon, I allow you to consume a portion of the soul, while the rest of the spiritual energy goes to Catseyes to channel as she sees fit. As demons gain in stature, I increase their soul intake.
  • How do souls serve in our armies? What form(s) do they take?
    • Souls serve as raw spiritual energy, first and foremost. They feed demons to maintain their power and they fuel dark rituals performed by high-ranking templars. Souls also can be used to dominate a creature in the Overworld so that it is “possessed” in our name. This means that we can take the soul of a sirci, for example, and infuse it into a dragon’s head, thereby gaining control over the creature. A stronger soul is always necessary to usurp a weaker soul.
Souls also take the forms of wraiths, ghosts, and such. Sometimes they are already in the Overworld, where I control them after taking note of their presence. They can also wander the Underworld in a similar form.
  • Do we get the souls of either Outsiders or Reapers who visit Naria?
    • No, all mortals are reunited with their souls after visiting Naria or receiving a raise/rezz. Reapers are included in this category. This is due to Deori’s mercy (which is by no means eternal, though some thoughtlessly presume it such). The souls we receive are from slain creatures and Terrisians who have forever departed the lands. I could simply take a mortal’s soul if I wished, but it would be with good reason. Interestingly enough, I find good reasons rather often …
  • It’s time for me to depart Terris permanently. Can I entrust my soul to your care?
    • Yes. In fact, the souls of those forever gone will ultimately come to my care regardless of the individual’s wishes. It is the natural order of things.

Demons

  • Are all demons flesh eating?
    • Yes, with no exceptions.
  • Are the demons in the Demon Citadel related to us? What about eye demons, skitter demons, ice demons, etc.?
    • The demons in the Citadel are outcasts. The other types of demons roaming the land are largely unrelated to (and weaker than) those in the Underworld, and are the creation of powerful dark beings in Terris. However, due to our special knowledge of all demons, we can easily take control of them at our whim.
  • Can I be a vampire/undead/shapeshifter while being a demon too?
    • Absolutely not. You are a demon, and no more. The physical transformation obliterates any changes you endured in the past, and precludes any you wish to undergo in the future. For information on how a demon typically appears seek out Overseer Lakash’s post on this site. They do not stray far, if at all, from the paths he dictates.
  • Can I be a demon of your creation, but not a member of the temple?
    • No. You are no use to me while outside of the temple, and thus I would not waste the time or energy on your transformation.
  • Do all demons of one rank look and act the same?
    • They look the same in terms of body type, but not actual appearance — though they are often quite similar. Again, read Lakash’s words on the subject.
  • Could the demons one day go berserk and consume all of the stored souls in the Underworld?
    • Only a fool doubts our power, or our control over our own creatures.
  • How do demons consume the souls that they reap? Do they feed directly after killing the creature, or do they wait for it to return from the Underworld — gifted by Catseyes?
    • When a demon is reaping, he will often not have enough time to stop and properly consume the portions of the souls as is allowed. Thus, in those cases, the souls will travel directly to the Uderworld, where I shall send the remaining soul energy back to the demon when he is ready. If the demon has enough time, however, he can simply consume a portion of the soul on the spot, and the rest will travel to me.

Humanoids

  • How come humanoids retain their souls?
    • Should I deem it necessary, I can momentarily assume control of humanoids, though I virtually never do. I do not need to have as much control over humanoids as do I over the demons, who are chaotic by nature. Our control of demons is wholly beneficial, as I merge my bloodlust with their own instincts, thereby creating a creature purely bent on the deaths of others. I do allow most demons to retain their souls with them as they travel the lands.
  • I’m a Humanoid. The RP seems undefined for this path. How do I know if I’m all that a Humanoid should be?
    • The roleplay is undefined because we all know about Humanoids already. They are the dwarves, elves, and so on of the world. They aren’t as defined as demons, of course, because demons are a new concept that required explanation. Humanoids can be quite similar to demons in their desire to reap, but generally Humanoids appreciate the more intellectual and insightful aspects of Death.

Dying, Raises, and Ressurections

  • Is it a “bad” thing for Temple of Death members to die?
    • In general, no. Those who employ superior tactics will avoid falling in combat, and thus will usually be more efficient and productive reapers. But I have no real qualm with any who die. Why should I? As long as the person who dies does not receive a resurrection, I am quite content with my reapers.
  • What if I get soul summoned and rezzed without my permission by someone thinking they’re doing a good deed?
    • It is very hard to be soul summoned and then resurrected without you having the time or wherewithal to type DIE. However, it is possible that you will be resurrected on the spot, nearly instantaneously, so I expect you to immediately teach the resurrector our beliefs if this occurs. I will not automatically punish them, however, unless they are a repeat offender. Any resurrectors who are not properly apologetic or who are repeat offenders should be reported to us, with supporting documentation.
  • I have reaped tens of thousands of things since I’ve been in the temple. Is it OK for me to use those kills as “credit” so I can get a rezz?
    • No, killing thousands of creatures is not a justification for receiving a resurrection. You can still receive one up to the Fiend ranks for Humanoids, and before Lesser Demon for those of the Demonic path. But keep in mind that repeated use of this privilege will be noticed, and will greatly slow your promotions.
  • Are raises frowned upon at all?
    • Yes. While they are not as spiritually costly as resurrections, they still deplete our resources overall.
  • How is visiting Naria any different from getting a rezz?
    • None of my stored souls is destroyed when you visit Naria.
  • A hero or immortal healed me the other day when I died. Does that weaken us?
    • No, immortals use their own power (and heroes use that of their immortal) to heal you, which does not expend soul energy. However, if they used runes and actually casted the resurrect spell, that would deplete my souls.
  • Why are demons unable to receive resurrections? Humanoids can receive resurrections up to the rank of Fiend, so why can’t demons get them up until the Lord rank? Aren’t your higher standards for demons unfair?
    • Demons consume portions of souls, whereas humanoids do not. Because demons consume souls, my resources are depleted, even if they go towards the greater “good.” However, due to their consumption of souls, I will not allow them to further deplete our resources by also receiving resurrections. This would be disrespectful to me and would incite my anger. Moreover, when a demon is resurrected, his own supply of souls is depleted. This is because the resurrection spell will destroy the nearest source of spiritual energy. Humanoids can receive resurrections because they do not consume souls, thereby depleting my resources. After the rank of Fiend, however, humanoids are considered sufficiently vested in the temple to forever forgo that privilege.
  • Arrgh! I was resurrected accidentally! Do I need to go DIE to prove it wasn’t intentional?
    • Well, we aren’t going to stop you. You are not required to go to such lengths to demonstrate loyalty, but it is an excellent way to prove the resurrection was accidental.
  • I admit it, I was weak and requested a resurrection. Give me a break: I was at 90% and really wanted to level. No one actually saw me get resurrected, so it’s ok, right?
    • If you received a resurrection as a demon, you are in trouble regardless. If you received one as a humanoid below Fiend rank, it is permissible, albeit strongly discouraged. However, if you are Fiend and above, you will be punished accordingly, regardless of your reasons. Keep in mind it is never acceptable to engage in immoral or wrong behavior simply because no one was around to catch you. We expect you to behave at all times with discipline and honor.
  • I’ve died and always gone to Naria, but I’m 80% to my next level and there’s a temple hunt in which we will all surely die. Do I have to go?
    • No, you do not have to go, but ask yourself where your true loyalty is if you decline to reap with your fellow templars in favor of advancing on your own. No true reaper should have an inherent fear of losing experience in such a manner. Likewise, no hunt leader should take a group to a locale that will cause certain death, it would be a pointless exercise. If you suspect the group’s death is imminent given the current circumstances and talents of the group, suggest an alternate plan to your leader.
  • Can I keep my resurrection/raise dead/soul summon spell when I join this temple?
    • No, you may not. If by some chance we do not immediately remove them, remind us. You will receive half of the build points spent on them — maybe more, maybe less, depending on your compliance and the time taken to remind us, if any.
  • I am sitting in the glade, heckling people who give and receive resurrections. Is this good?
    • Heckling and harassment are always annoying and in poor form. Keep anything of this nature to pure debate, or attempts at actually teaching those in the glade of our ways and their future. Always represent the temple in the best possible way. If you are in doubt, ask us.

Promotions

  • I reaped over 100 creatures today alone, so when do I get promoted?
    • Reaping alone will never get you a promotion. You must show your worth in other areas. The best ways are to roleplay well and attempt to lure people into our fold, in conjunction with reaping.
  • I was just granted a promotion, and it involved this really cool ceremony. I’m really pleased with the way I responded — can I share with others?
    • Please do not share any such specifics, for it can ruin the future enjoyment of others, and will invite mediocre imitation by other Terris organizations. If you wish to air your thoughts, create a post that doesn’t detail the ceremony, but instead focuses on your new feelings, ideas for the future, etc. If you wish to post the details regarding a landwide event of ours, request our permission first, as we may be preparing an official post ourselves.
  • Why was this other templar promoted ahead of me? I’ve been a member longer than he has. Isn’t that favoritism?
    • No. Our temple is a meritocracy, which is “a system in which the talented are chosen and moved ahead on the basis of their achievement.” The time spent in the temple is considered only secondarily. If you realize that others are surpassing you in terms of promotions, seek to unearth your own weaknesses and overcome them. Impress me, and you will be rewarded!
  • What is the Conclave? Can I join?
    • The Conclave is composed of the following ranks: Death’s Savant, Death’s Scribe, Death’s Scout, Death’s Ritualist and Drone Magister. Mistress Catseyes and Hero Kort preside over the Conclave. Its duties are, for the most part, kept secret. Publicly, they are in charge of interviews, occasional event preparations, planning warfare strategy, resolving conflict among members, etc. If the Special Rank positions have been filled, you will have to ascend to Savant status in order to join the Conclave. Patience is a must. People who demand quick promotions should join other, less discerning temples.
  • I’m a Zealot and notice others of my rank wearing their Insignias, but I haven’t recieved one. Would it be in bad form to ask the Mistress or Hero for mine?
    • Feel free to request the Insignia from us. We wish all such oversights to be brought immediately to our attention.

Temple Unity, Conduct and the Power Hierarchy

  • This drone annoys me so much! Can I kill him?
    • Absolutely not. You must talk with him and patiently attempt to guide him. When all else fails, you come to us. Only we have the option to deal harshly with the Drone; it is no templar’s place to punish another. Unity is above all.
  • I’m a Drone, but I still don’t feel like I’m “fitting in.” What can I do?
    • First seek out our Drone Magister. They specialize in assimilating and instructing new members. Likewise, Mistress Catseyes and Hero Kort are always willing to offer guidance, should the Drone Magister not be accessible.
  • I really don’t like this templar, but he is my superior. Must I listen to what he says?
    • Yes, you must. Disrespect to a superior is considered disrespect to us, and is a punishable offense.
  • This temple superior insists that his tactics and orders will win us the battle, if not the war. How do I tell him I disagree?
    • As politely as possible, and only in tells. Make sure it does not become a heated battle. You can disagree with your superiors, but you still must obey them. Remember, we promoted them, and we have vested them with authority. Again, disrespect to a temple superior is disrespect to us.
  • I understand the militant structure of the temple, but I’m in a guild/HH meeting when an elder templar calls all of us to meet at a specific place NOW. Can I simply not attend?
    • We realize that some issues outside temple business are pressing and must be handled. However, we expect you to make every effort to honor the request of your temple superior. At the least, immediately inform him why you cannot be present.
  • What happens if I have a problem with another Reaper and I don’t want to be disrespectful?
    • Talk with them and do not let the conversation degrade. Leave if it begins to. If you have tried your best to make the situation work and have consistently failed, talk to Catseyes or Kort to receive our input. In the end, however, you may simply have to accept the situation, for we will allow no dissent in our ranks.
  • Two templars are fighting and arguing in temple shouts. Is this allowed?
    • It depends. There is always a boundary we don’t allow to be crossed in any temple debate, because of the impact it has on unity. If we feel the argument has been taken too far, we will step in to stop it. If it seems harmless and does not in any way demonstrate disrespect, we will allow it to continue.
  • Is it acceptable if I prefer to be alone and keep to myself?
    • Yes, but we do encourage you to at least periodically gather with fellow templars. If that is uncomfortable, you should demonstrate your loyalty and dedication in temple shouts as much as possible. This ensures we know you are around and interested, and will make promotions more likely.
  • What do you think of temple hunts?
    • Temple hunts are an excellent means of meeting your fellow Reapers, and inspiring unity in the whole temple. We encourage hunts be held as often as possible, and we ask that Reapers attend whenever possible. Try to accomodate any younger reapers so that they too can join in — even assign them a guardian if need be. The individuals who lead temple hunts should choose the ultimate destination carefully. Is it a place which will provide acceptable challenge, but not prove impossible? Is the area magic-proof? If it will inevitably end in the death of all attending, choose a more realistic goal.
  • I’m now possessed/sick/insane. Can’t I use this as a reason to be rude to temple members, or to cause a little chaos?
    • No, absolutely not. We will purge you from the temple until such time as you are fully cured. Even then, it may prove impossible to return. Rarely do we show mercy to the fallen.
  • I attended my first sacrifice, and it was gruesome! Would it be acceptable if I just watched instead of participating?
    • You may simply observe, yes, though we do prefer you get involved at some level. During your time in Death you will witness more atrocities than you can imagine, so it is best to be sure you can fully accept all that we embrace. Otherwise, you may eventually find yourself weakening and wishing to leave.

Recruiting

  • A potential member just approached me about joining the temple. I’m not really comfortable with my knowledge at this point in my temple career, so what should I do?
    • Recommend them to consult another templar that you trust and respect, and then start reading temple documents and asking us questions to better shore up your own knowledge.
  • How should I go about recruiting people?
    • It is often useful to place a creative, articulate AD stating that you are knowledgeable about the Temple of Death and its ways. Talking with those in your HH or guild may prove lucrative; occasionally, enlightening those you randomly encounter at lairs or while wandering the lands will be productive. Master Corin has penned a guidebook on recruiting and interviewing. Reread it periodically as a refresher, and request it if you do not have a copy.
  • How should I go about interviewing people?
    • While for the sake of convenience we can call it interviewing, it is not by any means formal — it is only a preliminary, voluntary screening. In reality, if you are not a Temple Leader, you cannot actually interview. All that is within your power is to teach or quiz a potential reaper to the best of your ability. The applicant does not need to be sponsored or screened before seeking out one of the Conclave. If you fail someone, keep in mind that you may eventually see him amidst our ranks. We expect that you will have confidence in our judgment and experience; often, an initial rejection inspires Reapers to thoroughly learn every subtlety about our temple, which bodes well for subsequent interviews.
  • I’ve been interviewing this person who understands our beliefs well, but he seems to be a good or peaceful person. What do I do?
    • Recommend they seek membership in another temple. Since you do not have the power to fail them if you are not a temple leader, inform the TLs that this person is of a lawful or good alignment.
  • I’ve been interviewing this person who understands our beliefs well, but he seems to have a poor grasp of roleplay. What do I do?
    • If the individual’s roleplay is so bad that it is beyond redemption, turn him away promptly, and inform the TLs of your opinion. However, if you feel the individual could learn by example, seek to teach and inspire him (with the assistance of other Reapers, if you like). Again, we suggest perusing Master Corin’s guidelines on recruiting and interviewing.
  • My close friend was permanently rejected by someone in the Conclave! Why?
    • It is not your place to question the actions of the Conclave. However, should the temple leader feel so inclined, he may offer the reasoning behind his decision. It is your duty to accept the answer and not debate it.
  • Mr_Ed just asked for information on the temple. Do I have to *politely* tell him that his name is unacceptable, or can I just say what’s on my mind?
    • By all means, please inform this person you consider the name hideous and in poor taste. Short of obscenities or harassment, you may be as diplomatic or as blunt as you wish.

Shouts and Dealing with Outsiders

  • Do you want to hear landwide shouts of Catseyes! Catseyes! Catseyes!
    • No, I would prefer you show your devotion to me by spreading our beliefs and leading the rabble by example through dastardly pursuits.
  • Does Catseyes like it when we shout about our beliefs?
    • Yes, if you are absolutely certain about your knowledge. If there is any doubt in your mind about the nuances of temple doctrines, I recommend you refrain from public debates. If you have not thoroughly thought out the ramifications of various aspects involving Death and its ethos and goals, do not attempt to debate Outsiders either. Come to us (Catseyes and Kort) with your questions instead, and better arm yourself. In general, leave the heavy duty shout debates to Mistress Catseyes, Hero Kort, and the highest ranking templars.
  • Is it bad to shout a lot in general? What about silly shouts?
    • If you find you cannot maintain a level of respectability and maturity when you shout, then you must refrain from shouting often. But if while shouting you can maintain the respect and dignity appropriate to our temple, feel free to do so. Goofy, affectionate, or grossly sexual shouts are all strongly frowned upon, and will be cause for reprimand.
  • Citizens of Terris say we’re all talk and no action. How do we prove that we’ll crush them one day?
    • We prove it each time our armies invade the Overworld. For some reason, Outsiders seem to believe they beat us off, but in reality we simply call back the Horde when the demons have finished feeding on their dead. It is their own arrogance (and ignorance) which blinds Outsiders to our inexorable superiority in battle. Remind them as well that we retain control of any creature souls that are slain during invasions. It is impossible for us to lose.
  • Hey! This Outsider says he’ll be spared when the end comes. Is that true?
    • It could very well be, as some Outsiders serve our purposes well. Perhaps they sate the needs of our templars, or have pleased the Queen of Suffering. However, if the Outsider behaves in ways that are derogatory to our templars or our beliefs, rest assured we will no longer consider that person eligible for salvation. Do not hesitate to remind them that their exemption is by no means permanent, and must be continually earned.
  • This Outsider says that his temple is necessary for us to succeed! Is that true?
    • No. While the reaping of non-templars does benefit us (whether they like it or not), we have sufficiently productive reapers to dominate the Overworld through our own efforts alone. It is simply a matter of time. Death is the final answer to all — be it pain, combat, or the hunt. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
  • This Outsider told me that for “Death to rule all,” that we the templars will die too! Is that really the case?
    • No, that is the stance of the ignorant — those who believe that “death” can exist only simultaneously with its counterpart of “life.” In reality, True Death is your existence (life) in the Underworld after your mortal body has passed on. Even now, we are the symbolic embodiment of death — all of us. Mistress Kilana and I are not dead, and demons are not dead (though they have no true souls). However, were all life to cease to exist in the
Overworld there would still be Hell. Even if all those who were living in the Underworld itself perished, there would still be the dead residing in Hell. For death to exist, life needs to have existed at some point — but not necessarily at the same time.
  • This Outsider assures me that Deori and the other immortals won’t allow us to conquer Terris! Could that be true?
    • What is true is that our fellow Immortals will attempt to stop us — assuming they are not sleeping or absent altogether! Many people are content in assuming that it is impossible to kill Deori and the other Immortals, and so they relax and soften. We will prove them wrong; until then, however, enjoy that many naively underestimate us. It makes our work all the easier. With an active immortal, hero and a host of the dead, demonic, and mortal on our side, we foresee no true resistance, when our time comes …
  • There’s an Outsider who has the prefix/suffix “Hand of Death.” There’s another one with the prefix/suffix “Evil Demon.” What do I do?
    • We can and do remove titles that specifically deal with Death or the Underworld, but there are the occasional exceptions. Titles with the term “Demon” are more often debatable. While we are the only temple that has integrated demons so entirely into our order, there are demons wandering the land that we consider outcasts. As a result, we rarely limit that particular title, unless its trespass onto our domain is clear. In any case, if you feel a title is questionable, bring it to our attention.
  • I can’t wait for this enemy of mine to die. Can I ask that he be one of the first slaughtered when our time comes?
    • You can certainly ask, and we will almost always comply; be forewarned, however, that we make all such final decisions.

Miscellaneous

  • I’m having a problem choosing a path! What should I do?
    • Seek out advice from members in both paths to further your understanding. Review all the necessary personality and lifestyle changes inherent in becoming a demon, and decide if you can indeed become an accomplished one. If not, choose to be a Humanoid and refine your temple knowledge greatly.
  • Will my favorite HHs or Guilds be exempt when the army crushes the Overworld?
    • No. Certain people will be — our templars’ loved ones, for instance. However, if any of them fight us too hard they too will have to die. Spending considerable time on guild or HH endeavors then is, ultimately, fruitless.
  • I got caught killing innocents in Dread’s temple, and now the Dread members are angry. Is this OK?
    • Yes, if you are willing to accept the consequences for your actions. Do not expect us to protect you from punishments meted by other gods, though we certainly reserve the right to intervene on your behalf if we so desire.
  • I want to do some special personal RP outside what is specified in the documents. How do I go about this?
    • Tell us your idea and we’ll discuss its merits and drawbacks.
  • I’ve come up with an idea for a fantastic temple event! Who do I tell?
    • We would prefer you first clear it with the Temple Leaders, and upon gaining their acceptance you may seek Mistress Catseyes out with the idea. It is best never to assume beforehand that the event will take place, however, for we are quite selective.
  • Is temple tithing important?
    • It shows increased loyalty to your God, and is encouraged. I do recognize when people tithe, and make note of your tithe temple rank.
  • Do we have temple weapons? What about a temple mount?
    • Yes. Weapons and a mount are available to Reapers with patience, perseverance, and loyalty.
  • Is the Underworld opening soon? What can you tell me about it?
    • We are still unsure as to precisely when it will be officially opened, but work continues. As for what the Underworld entails … simply picture your worst fears, the most fiery landscape possible, coupled with hordes and hordes of strange, often demonic creatures. A portion will be opened to the Overworld, and a portion will be open only to my Reapers.
  • If I quit the temple, can I rejoin later?
    • Almost always, no. Any exceptions would depend upon the reason for your departure, and our mutual attitude at the time. Once you are purged from our ranks, most templars would consider you a failure or a traitor, and would not welcome you back, so be forewarned.
  • Can I have multiple characters from one Terris account in the temple?
    • Yes.
  • If our armies invade the land, and some of the creatures attack me, can I defend myself?
    • Yes, you may. It is entirely expected that in the heat of the moment, as the bloodlust consumes so many demons and other creatures, they may perhaps turn on some of you. Do not be offended by this, for you have your own protection. Instead, be glad they are on your side in the end!
  • Can I get married and have children? What if it’s with an Outsider? What will happen to them on the day of reckoning?
    • Yes, you can. Generally, families of reapers are protected. If there is someone who is viciously fighting us, however, they shall be exterminated with the rest. We trust our reapers will not fall in love with such people, but we are prepared nonetheless …
  • I am loyal to my temple and my guild both. Does one take precedence over the other?
    • The temple always takes precedence. It makes sense when you consider our goal of taking over the Overworld. It makes even more sense when you realize that you are following Gods, and not an abstract guild ideal that likely suits your profession more than your persona.
  • Do you perform weddings? How can I arrange to have mine done?
    • On occaision Catseyes performs weddings, but Lord Kort does not. Seek her out if you wish, and inform her of the date desired, as well as details about any rooms, items, vows, or special guests. She will let you know if she is interested or available.
  • Why aren’t druids allowed to join? How do we feel about knights, monks, wizards, and enchanters?
    • Druids seek to maintain a balance in the realm, while we seek to destroy the balance through conquering the Overworld. There will be no Monk, Knight or Wizard in the temple. Their ethos are such that they uphold goodliness and shiny things. I have no use for either.
  • Why does the Queen of Suffering sometimes give us favor?
    • She appreciates your efforts and sacrifices, and will reward you when she sees fit — which is often.
  • Someone asked me what the stats were on my temple items. Can I tell them?
    • No, we prefer you do not. Death has its secrets.
  • My history is really poorly written, and not all that exciting. Do I really have to post it for the whole temple to see?
    • First, if it is poorly written and not exciting, change that! You have complete freedom to define your history. Be creative and articulate, and quietly ask fellow templars for help in voicing your thoughts if necessary. Keep in mind that it should correlate to the ways of Terris — none of that “I came from another world” silliness.
  • Are there actual plans for the domination of the Overworld?
    • Yes.
  • Who were the Immortals of Death before Catseyes ascended? How did they obtain their powers?
    • To best understand the ascendancy of Reknall and then Worcester, some historical background must first be provided.

After a long spell in captivity, Vagma was finally released from the depths of Bellegost by a plethora of dwarves digging for mithril. Strengthened by his new minions — this army of evil dwarves, and a freshly conjured dragon — Vagma immediately confronted Deori and his children. In response, Deori’s beloved Eridanian stepped forth and slew the dragon with but one arrow from his bow. The dragon fell from the skies, crushing much of Vagma’s army underneath, and forming the Wyrm Spine Mountains in the process. Desperate to restore his leverage, Vagma sought to raise his army from the dead. Yet when he tried to call forth the dead spirits of his army, he found the victims had already answered a call to another. A huge horse with flaming hooves now appeared. Its rider had a pale face and wielded a skull mace. He was Reknall, Lord of the Dead, the new Child of Deori. And thus appeared the first Immortal of Death.

Decades elapsed, until one day Terris was assaulted by a series of invasions. Worcester, the powerful warlock Hero of Dread, had discovered that the invasions were launched by Reknall himself. It was not long before the two men were locked in a lengthy and fierce struggle to the death. Worcester slowly gained the upper hand, finally vanquishing his formidable foe. But the true victor was only revealed when, with Reknall’s last breath, he thanked Worcester for releasing him from his curse. The new Immortal of Death railed against this malediction, and sought to be freed of it for years. Only when his wife, Elantara, sacrificed her immortaldom to the Midnight Star in exchange for his release, was Worcester at long last freed from his ties to the Underworld. The Midnight Star throbbed with the power of the souls reaped since the start of time, until finally it began to weaken, for the force within was simply too great.

And so begins the tale of our Master Corin and Mistress Kilana. We now know that though their reign was long and terrifying, it did come to an end through the bumblings of the demon Lakash.

After 50 years of no leadership, Catseyes watched the skull thrones merge and accepted her Skull Mace and Immortality. Thus the new era of Death, began…
